Hello poker enthusiasts! We had left our last instalment of poker glossary at the alphabet “H”. Let us continue from where we have left.
Implied Odds:
They are the pot odds that are not at present existing, but might incorporate in a player’s calculations because of bets the player expect to win if hit the hand.
Inside Straight:
It is s straight draw where only one specific rank of card can finish a player’s straight.
In the money:
It is to place high enough in a poker tournament to win the prize money.
Isolation:
Betting or raising with the intention of only playing against one challenger post flop is termed as isolation.
Jackpot:
Many best online poker sites offer jackpots when a specific criterion meets.
Johnnies:
These are the nickname for pocket jacks
Joker:
Joker is a 53rd card using only in a few games. Jokers considered to be wild in poker online games.
Juice:
It is the interest owed on money borrowed.
Kicker:
A kicker is the highest ranking card in a player’s hand not used in pairs or trips.
LAG:
It is the short form of Loose AGgressive style of play.
Laydown:
It is a difficult selection to fold a good hand if you think your opponent has you beat.
Leak:
A systematic mistake that a poker online player makes is called a leak. This mistake is cost him money in the long run.
LHE:
It is the short form of Limit Hold’em.
Limp:
To just call the big blind instead of raising it is known as a limp.
Lock:
It is a hand so strong that it’s either impracticable or at least entirely unlikely that it can lose no matter what comes. Having a lock on the pot implies that it’s time to work out how to extract the most money out of the other players.
Loose:
A player who calls bets with weak hands or when he doesn’t have the odds to justify it is called as a loose player.
Made hand:
It is a hand which does not require drawing more cards to be complete.
Maniac:
Popular approach to describe someone who seemingly bet or raise with any hand.
Move in:
It is to go all-in.
MP:
It is the Middle Position, or the players in the 3 to 5 seats off the button at a full table.
MTT:
It is the short form of Multi-table tournament.
Muck:
It is to fold a player’s cards – or can be referring to the real pile of unwanted cards.
NLHE:
It is the short form of No-limit Hold’em.
No-Limit:
It is a version of poker in which a player may bet any amount of chips that the player has when it is his turn.
Nuts:
A player who has the best possible hand is said to be holding the nuts. The best possible hand is always at least a set.
O8:
It is the short form of Omaha 8-or-better (Hi/Lo split)
Offsuit:
The two cards which are not of the same suit is known as offsuit.
On the come:
It is to bet or call with a draw.
Open:
To bet first is termed as open.
Open limp:
Being the first person to call preflop, but not raise is known as open limp.
Outs:
The cards which can come to give a player the winning hand is termed as outs.
Overcall:
It is to call a bet after others have called ahead of a player.
Overcard:
A card higher than any card on the board is termed as overcard.
Overpair:
A pocket pair higher than any card on the flop is called overpair.
Paint:
Any face card is known as paint.
Pair:
Two cards of the same rank are called pair.
Passive:
Someone who folds easily is said to be passive.
PLHE:
It is the short form of Pot-limit Hold’em.
PLO8:
It is the short form of Pot-limit Omaha 8-or-better.
Poker Face:
A blank expressionless face, which gives away no information to a player’s opponents, is termed as poker face.
Pocket pair:
Having a pair as a player’s hole cards is pocket pair.
Position:
The turn in the order of betting is position.
Pot:
It is the money which is up for grabs. The player who shows down the best hand at the end, or who can make all the other players fold, wins the pot.
Pot Odds:
The amount of money in the pot compared to the amount a player must put in the pot to carry on playing.
Pot-Committed:
It is a situation where a player is essentially forced to call the rest of his stack because of the size of the pot and his residual chips.
Pot-Limit:
It is a version of poker in which a player may bet up to the amount of money in the pot whenever it is his turn to act.
Pre-flop:
It is the time when players already have their pocket cards but no flop has been dealt yet.
Push:
To go all-in is known as push.
Qualifier:
It is the need for a hand to be eligible for half the pot in a High-Low game.
Rag:
A small card or unimportant card is called as rag
Rainbow:
When the cards on the board are all of diverse suit, it is said to be rainbow.
Raise:
Raise is to bet more than the previous person to act.
Rake:
The money that a poker room (or poker site) charges per pot is termed as rake.
Rakeback:
It is the payment to a player of a part of the rake paid by that player, typically from a third-party source such as an affiliate.
Read:
Having a read on a player means that the online poker player has picked up on something major about the way he likes to play his hands.
Rebuy:
It is an option to buy back into a tournament after a player has lost all his chips.
Represent:
A player’s actions can be said to represent a hand.
Re-raise:
If a player bet, someone raises him and he raise their raise, the player is said to be re-raising.
Ring game:
As opposed to a tournament or a satellite, a ring game is played directly for money. Compare to cash game.
River:
The last card dealt up.
Rock:
A very tight player is often called a rock because they don’t get out of line.
Runner-runner:
Catching two cards in a row that you need for a hand is called catching (or needing) runner-runner.
Running bad:
When statistical fluctuations cause you to get bad hands and lose money, is running bad. It is also cold streak.
Rush:
A prolonged winning streak
Sandbag:
It is synonymous to check-raising someone.
Sandwich:
It is to trap someone between two raisers is known as sandwich.
Satellite:
A tournament in which the prize is a free entry into another (larger) tournament is called as satellite.
Scarecard:
It is a card which likely finished someone’s draw.
Scoop:
It is to win both the Hi and the Lo in a split game.
Semi-bluff:
Betting or raising on the come is called as semi-bluff
Set:
It is a pair in the hole that gives a player three-of-a-kind with something on the board.
SF:
This stands for straight flush.
Shootout:
It is a poker tournament format where the left behind player of a table goes on to play the lasting players of other tables until a final table has been reached.
Short Stack:
A stack of chips that is comparatively small for the stakes playing and comparing to other’s chip stacks is short stack.
Shorthanded:
It is a less-than full table. A full table is usually 9-10 players, so anything less than that can be regarded shorthanded.
Showdown:
It is the point at which all players lasting in the hand turn their cards over and decide who has the best hand in the poker online game.
Side pot:
When there are three or more players in a pot, and one of them is all-in a sidepot is (or can be) created by the other two players.
Sit and go:
A poker tournament with no planned beginning time that starts whenever the necessary number of players has joined the tournament.
Slowplay:
It is to check and call with a made hand, instead of betting or raising. Most frequently used as an approach to trick opponents into thinking a player’s hand is weaker than it actually is.
Smooth call:
It is the calling a bet or a raise, instead of raising with strong hands.
Soft-Play:
To go effortless on another player at the poker table (e.g., not betting or raising against him).
Splashing the pot:
In poker live, when a player drops his chips into the pot in an unorganized style which wouldn’t let the other players to verify the player is contributing the correct amount. As a rule, regarded to be in poor taste!
Split Pot:
It is a pot which is sharing by two or more players as they have the same winning hand.
Stakes:
The amount one buys in for and can bet at an online poker game is termed as stakes.
Steal:
When it checks to someone in late position who raises preflop in Hold’em, he may be on a steal – raising with a worse-than-usual hand, because of the additional option of him picking up the blinds unconceal.
Straddle:

Straight:

Straight flush:
It is the strongest hand in poker. A straight with all the cards in the same suit is straight flush.
STT:
It stands for single table tournament.
Stuck:
Someone who has lost money is stuck.
Suckout:
When an opponent draws against the odds (or draws at all, really) to beat your hand and hits, a poker online player is the victim of a suckout.
Suit:
The suit of a card in the deck is Clubs, Spades, Hearts or Diamonds.
Suited:
When cards all share a suit, they termed to be suited.
